Sighting for September 27, 2019

David L. Amadio

Riverwinds River Trail & Community center
Gloucester County, NJ

Obs. made from 3:15 to 4:50 p.m. Filtered sun & 78 degrees. Tremendous movement of Fiery Skippers for this location along the Delaware River. Found 12 males & 7 females. Also found my first Glouco Ocola skippers for this year. Nectar source again continues to be White Snakeroot which is found in abundance here. Also observed at least 20 of the invasive Spotted Lanternfly on one tree. These plant hoppers are stunning to look at but a real problem for trees.

[Thank you, Dave.

CAN OTHER OBSERVERS PLEASE LIST SIGHTINGS OF SPOTTED LANTERNFLIES IN SOUTH JERSEY? It's disturbing to find them, but if our log and our team of observers can contribute to monitoring their probable expansion into South Jersey, I think that would be a helpful thing. Photos like Dave's will add to our documentation of their presence here – but written reports w/o photos will also be significant. jc]
