Cox Hall Creek
Cape May County, NJ
My wife came home today and said she saw a Black Swallowtail flying at Cox hall. Since we have the chrysalis's overwintering in the Garage every winter I have no doubt of her ID!
[Very cool! This ties our earliest ever date for the species – March 17, 2012 (Jesse Connor, Port Republic ATL). Our 2012 observers set a long string of earliest ever dates during that warm winter/spring – many of which are still standing. One has fallen and two have been tied already in 2020, however, and a few more may follow in this (so far) similarly warm winter/spring. jc]
