Riverwinds Scenic Trail
Gloucester County, NJ
63 degrees late morning—orangetip seen in the parking lot, but no chance for photo as it flew high and into the woods. Some Anglewings nectaring on bradford pears. Walk ended as rain and clouds moved in.
[Good find and a new earliest ever FOY for falcate orangetip!
This is the 4th 2012 record we have tied or broken in 2020. Records tied have been black swallowtail and Henry's elfin. 2012 earliest broken have been orange-tip and American snout.
That warm winter/spring in 2012 established a long series of earliest ever FOYs which have stood since (mostly). The current warm winter and spring (if it continues) may change those records. See Early & Late Dates spreadsheet on our blog.
Congratulations to Sandra and Chris on another good find! jc]
