Jack Miller

Cape May County, NJ

11:15 - 12:15. I tried to carefully count the first 125 Dions, but soon found it impossible as with each step 3- 7 would take wing. My attention was on the spicebush blooms on the edges of the powerlines searching for broken dash, so I did not transverse the center of the colony where Dions were floating like fireflies; consequently, my number is an estimate. The red-banded hs were easier to count, but once again I know there were many more in the sweet gums in the middle of the area. I have never seen a rbhs give a dorsal view like the one in the photo. The Dion in the photo barely escaped from what I believe is a Phidippus clarus.
