Sighting for July 31, 2020

Lucy Hooper

My backyard in Mickleton
Gloucester County, NJ

I saw the Sleepy Oranges on multiple trips out to the yard but at one point I saw 2 together in our meadow. There possibly could have been more than 2. I have a good size area of Senna marilandica in our meadow which is probably why I have them. I planted it at around 15 years ago when the Latin name was Cassia marilandica. I had these butterflies last year also, but didn’t know exactly what they were until a professional identified them for me from a picture.

[It appears that this might be a colony in the making.- jm]
