Saw this at Palmyra this morning. I haven’t the slightest clue as to what it is. An escape? Over the years I’ve become used to the occasional escaped bird, but I never considered escaped butterflies.
[A mind-bender! A search through various on-line sites leads me to speculate that it is Parthenos sylvia virens, a.k.a. the Sahyadri clipper, a species found in the forests of south and southeast Asia (according to its Wikipedia entry). Go to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthenos_sylvia
If this is an escape from captivity, as Ward and others suggest, it would be interesting to track down the source. Another suggested possibility is an escape from a ship coming to Camden or Philadelphia. If there's another possibility, let us hear. All ideas are welcome. In any case, this seems the most unexpected report in several years. jc]
