Sighting for October 10, 2020

Jack Connor

Great Bay Boulevard, Tuckerton
Ocean County, NJ

"7 Bridges Road," 10:30-12:30, high 60s, overcast. All monarchs seen were nectaring on or clinging to seaside goldenrod, pinned-down by gusting winds from S and SE (oft pushing directly up the road). Largest group (~30) was farthest inland, in "inner marsh," more than a mile from the beach and open bay at end of road. Rest scattered in spots where Phrags or Baccharis provided wind protection. Total is a close approximation. Only buckeye seen was a beautiful "dark rosa" form.

  • Cabbage White 3
