Sighting for July 22, 2021

Lucy Hooper

My backyard in Mickleton
Gloucester County, NJ

I only included the skipper pictures because I could not positively ID-not sure if the pictures are enough-they are both of the same skipper. Monarchs were hanging around the stand of swamp milkweed behind the house all day. In another part of the yard a female Monarch for well over an hour was landing on Butterfly weed and common milkweed foliage (here pictured landing on the only flower left in the stand near a pair of large milkweed bugs). Hopefully will soon have baby cats. The Red-banded Hairstreak is on the same stand of Swamp milkweed the monarch was visiting all day.

[I believe the sk in the photos is a tawny-edge. -jm]
