Pat & Clay Sutton

Sutton GDN in Goshen
Cape May County, NJ

Just back from 10 days running 2 butterfly cts in SC and the garden has flopped from strong winds. It was lovely to see a southerner visiting our gdn (Long-tailed Skipper). Also spotted a large Monarch caterpillar on our chain link fence behind the Common Milkweed garden on 9-11-21 at 5:45 pm, that by 9-12-21 at 8:38 am was in a "J" position, and by 3:55 pm the filaments had gone limp (so I knew it was about to go into its chrysalis), which occurred over a 4 minute and 50 second period (4 PHOTOS included). Also spotted 3 other large Monarch caterpillars (and hopefully many more "in hiding").

[Interesting to note that besides being 1 of 3 locations to report our first long-tailed sk's of the year, it was also the second report of the day with photos of a metamorphizing cats (See Beth Polvino's entry with metamorphizing of a sleepy orange cat). -jm
