Sighting for June 16, 2022

Jeanine Apgar and Greg Prelich

Greenwood Forest WMA
Ocean County, NJ

After a rain, 1:30 -3:30 pm. Almost all were nectaring on thistle and dogbane.

[A super find of oak hairstreak, one of South Jersey's most elusive butterflies (which we have missed entirely in six of our log's past 13 years). This individual is also in a hard-to-ID form, lacking the white dash on inner hindwing, but showing the orange cap on blue on hindwing tail and also – faintly – the long dash on cell end bar. Excellent work and a delightfully confirming photo, JA and GP! jc]
