Sighting for May 13, 2023

Overcast, light rain, mid to high 60s. Interesting admiral activity. Jesse Amesbury and I seemed to agree that there appeared to be some migratory movement going on with red admirals. They were moving through town past the welcome center and along the railroad tracks. Even while visiting the South Cape May Meadows later, admirals were chugging past the area with a purpose. Cape Island usually has a big abundance of Red Admirals compared to anywhere else, but there was clearly some movement today. Rather strange given the unfavorable weather conditions.

[A "red" alert, everyone. Please be on the lookout for possible migration movement of red admirals. We have had movements of them in May in previous years, including the first week of May 2012, when thousands were seen in various locales. jc]
