The Monarch that eclosed on 11/13 apparently took flight today as I left the enclosure partially open. A second Monarch eclosed today and appears to be healthy. At least one more viable chrysalis remains.

Finally out of my surgical boot and can walk a bit! Less than a week ago, I saw many pearl crescents here; today, only two. Amazing how fast a species can wink out. Stopped counting buckeyes and orange sulphurs at twenty. The field is loaded with sulphurs.

Temps high 50's, light winds, mostly sunny. Today I found 6 Cabbage White caterpillars & 1 Monarch caterpillar. Of the 12 Black Swallowtail caterpillars found several days ago 2 have died, 6 have gone into chrysalis and the rest are still on the curly parsley eating and growing.

Surprised to find good butterfly variety on the bike path this late in the season. There were a good number of buckeyes, a fresh male Cabbage White, a worn American Lady, an Orange Sulphur, a fresh male, Variegated Fritillary and a female Sachem.

A worn male Sachem and a Clouded Sulphur visited the Common Cat's-ear flowers. An Orange Sulphur came to the yard to bask for awhile.

The power line has been basically grounded down to dirt and leaves with no nectar and there were still, at least, 10 Common Buckeyes!! Got a late Eastern Pondhawk record and there were around 100 Yellow-legged Meadowhawks, a Common Green Darner and a few damselflies.
