Area seems to have changed, as butterfly numbers are significantly/drastically down from comparable timeframe searches last year (10+ species, 40+ individuals). An extensive search this afternoon revealed no Bronze Coppers in this active site the past two years and exceptionally low activities for butterflies, dragonflies or even biting bugs. Unknown, but perhaps the area was sprayed earlier this spring. Will continue to visit and monitor.

Black swallowtail was a caterpillar. Do we report caterpillars here or just adults?
Moderator's Note: Our new system counts only adults in the numbers line. To document caterpillars just add their numbers into the Comments box. If you have seen only caterpillars for a particular species (i.e. no adults), click on that species in the drop-down menu and put zero in the numbers box, then post the count of caterpillars in the Comments box. It is useful to report caterpillars (also eggs and chrysalids), so please keep doing so! jc
