Meadow Fritillaries fought off my efforts for a decent photo today. Observed a Black Swallowtail laying eggs on previously mowed Queen Anne's Lace. Observations made from 4-5:25 p.m.
[This is the first meadow frit report since July 16 –apparently, the first of the third ("late summer") brood. Nice! jc]

Narrow-leaved Eupatorium in bloom in fields attracting variegated frit., common wood nymph, sachems, orange sulphur, and monarch. White M on the same plant in the garden but only a brief look. Did not walk into tall grasses–fearing chiggers–so underestimated sachems and eastern tailed-blues. Also one monarch cat on c. milkweed.
