At 7:30 am, a female Black Swallowtail was egg laying on Fennel plants on West Hand Avenue. Saw a mint, male Black Swallowtail amongst flowers behind Avalon Coffee on Mechanic Street in the middle of the day.
In the evening, Cynthia and I watched 3 and perhaps, a few more Banded Hairstreaks moving around in the Oaks.

2hrs walking the fields this morning. Again no Skippers , Hairstreaks, or Tiger Swallowtails. Did have my FOY Cloudless Sulphur ovipositing on vetch. Another Three-spotted Cabbage White bringing the total to 13 with Dave's help. Thanks
2 odd Cabbage Whites is an anomaly. 13 is a trend.

Common Wood-Nymphs continue to be seen in good numbers. Horace's include a mated pair. Only 1 Banded observed today, but it patrolled for hours up in the sunlit leaves, despite the absence of other combatants.

Heading back from the Regal Frit tour at FIG, PA, I made a late afternoon stop. Fresh Meadow Frits flying in the overgrown road edge in the thick growth of red clover.

[This is our first report of meadow fritillary in 2017. It is a hard-to-find species in South Jersey. Last year we had only 6 reports, all from SAL. Nice catch, Steve! jc]
