Early afternoon search for dragonflies turned into a special day and a special find for my butterflying pursuits.

Fresh brood of Juniper Hairstreaks were very active, but the Brazilian Skipper was quite a surprise find in a patch of marsh I was investigating for damselflies. [Congrats to Steve for a very "special day"! This is our first report of Juniper hairstreaks since May 21. This is our third report of Brazilian skipper this year and our first ever outside CMY What a find!- jm]

Nabb Road private fields
Cumberland County, NJ

The land ownership has repurposed some of the land and last month completely plowed under one of the key fields.

I've gained permission to walk the private property again this season and made my first foray into the field today. It was nice to actually need to use my dial counters this year for a change.

Checkered White colony is still viable, as my lone individual was an ovipositing female today.
