Did a tour looking for anything flying.
Most interesting was the photo provided of a Comma. At first I thought this may have been a Gray Comma, given the very dark pattern and slight frosty edging, but the lack of long bars under the ventral forewing and lack of heavy striation had me confused. I then saw a photo on the North Jersey Butterflies group of a "plain form" Eastern Comma, and this fit my individual best. I can't recall seeing a "plain form" before and wonder if others have? I'm curious if this is an unusual form, or just to me?
[Intriguing find! Have any other observers seen this form in South Jersey? jc]

Cape May Point State Park
Cape May County, NJ
Seems to me that this red admiral must be an over-wintering individual.
[I agree with VE's assessment. Although over-wintering reports of this species are far less numerous than mourning cloaks and anglewings, we have at least one or two records for all winter months. Some adults must survive the winter here occasionally to fly again in spring – as this individual almost certainly has. This is also our FOY red admiral. Good find, Vince! jc]

Question Marks are off to a good start this March. Today's highlight was seeing a log with 5 spotted turtles on it and in another location a log with 6 spotted turtles on it. That's a lot of spotted turtles.

Large, bright orange anglewing. Probably a Question Mark. Mostly sunny, 55 degrees.
