Ended the day here at about 3:00. Most places I visited today were quiet, but this place was spooky quiet. However, it is good to note we are having a better start to April than last year.

Bright blue flight caught my eye 10:30am. At 1:30pm got a blurry shot with iphone. I see blues every year near damp sheltered spots at edge of woods. Much Holly here.

60 degrees, light winds. 7 species walk.
Big photo mis was an American Snout. My camera's focus hunted and pecked like a barnyard Chicken.
Azures make my head hurt. 5 of the reported were along a trail flanked by Holly Trees…are they Holly Azures? All 11 were of violacea form.
[Congratulations on our log's first Am lady of 2019, HT. Azures make lots of heads hurt among us. If I had to vote, I'd say your superb photo suggests blueberry azure because of duskiness, but I wouldn't bet much on that. jc]

Finally a few butterflies at this location. Most likely had an ETB. Got away from me. It would be quite unlikely, but not impossible to observe a spring azure here. No photo, so just a mention. Obs. approx. 3:30 till 4 p.m. sun & high 60's

My first foot chase of the season. Early male Orangetips are most often a challenge to photograph. Caught up to a fresh male today. Still fairly quiet despite such a gorgeous spring day. Also enjoyed a small flock of Field Sparrows, a common breeder here. Obs. made between 2 & 3:30 p.m.

Woodcock Lane
Cape May County, NJ
The vacant lot on the corner of Woodcock and 47 is now posted and the beginnings of construction is evident.
The 2 sulphurs I watched there are marked as sp because I did not go onto the lot.
The male Sulphur picture below I believe is a Clouded Sulphur.
1. In flight it was much more lemon yellow than the other 5 very obvious Orange Sulphurs
2. The dark overshadowing on the HY per Swift
3. Although the FY cell brightens it looks yellow to my eye.
[Helpful ID notes, Harvey, for our FOY clouded for 2019. jc]

First butterflies in this garden. Thought at first that the Comma was a moth. So compromised were its wings that it flew mothlike. Must have had a tough winter.
