Excited to find a new yard butterfly species #52 American Copper. 8 species of caterpillars in the yard right now so bringing in children going to the beach to teach about them (with their parents permission). Maybe spark an interest for the future.

[Beth, thank for your kind offer to once again open your splendid garden to visitors. I don't doubt that parents could also find it educational and inspiring. -jm]

Obs. made between 1:15 & 2:25 with sun and 95 degrees. The most productive butterflying that I have ever enjoyed at this park. The improvements to the Ann Whitall House garden & the butterfly garden are really drawing some nice diversity. Quickly found three Hackberry Emperors without much effort scanning the trees. Large number of Buckeyes for this location mainly attracted to Agastache.

Despite many years of observation I don't recall ever having this experience. One E.tiger was a dark female. A fresh pair of Spicebush Swallowtails today.

1:15 - 1:50; sunny and 97. This area is located in the CM National Wildlife Refuge, but the way in is through private land that I have permission to go through. It felt like a tropical jungle in this swamp and thigh-high rubber boots made me feel like I was melting. Great looking territory but few bflys. Monarchs were on milkweed a short way into the swamp.
