Obs. made from 2:35 to 4:20, 68-70 & Partly Cloudy. Thought I had a late Zabulon male, having not seen the FW. It got away before I could see it. A closer look at my image revealed a worn Fiery Skipper male.

Mostly sunny, mid 60's. Observations from 10:45- 1:30. I walked the 5 mile loop and then spent time on side trails. All 237 buckeyes were seen on the dikes. Oddly, all but 16 were seen on the first 2/3's of the dikes. Were they staging and leaving as I walked? I saw 4 other hairstreaks, but without camera or nocs I could not tell if they were grays or white m's. Strange to have seen only one sk here.

1 Cloudless Sulphur caterpillar (1/2 ") on Partridge Pea. While hawk-watching from backyard, picked up 10 high-flying Monarchs heading south, plus 2 in garden. The Brazilian Skipper chrysalis still looked viable and ready to emerge (when checked at 3:30 pm).

Just putting in a picture today as all of the same butterflies and caterpillars were here. This Long-tailed Skipper was one of 3 seen in the yard today. It came up onto the small deck by the back patio doors where I have Dallas Red lantana and was nectaring on it for about 15 minutes at lunchtime. I was about 3 ft away inside the house. It didn't even fly when I finally opened the door for better images. Also prior to that had a Ruby-throated hummingbird nectaring on the same plant.

A great Monarch day here. There were Monarchs flying down the bay moving South. As they got by my place many came over to nectar on the plantings in the yard. At one point there were about 20 of them floating on the breezes in the front yard. I do not know if they stayed here overnight as they have in the past. Also, there were 8 Cloudless Sulphurs here floating in the back yard where the Senna is planted. along with some dog fighting seen. All looked fresh so perhaps they eclosed here.

I am not reporting most of the bflys that have been here lately (although today was great). This was a big day for monarchs with at least 12 at one time; most of them were moving south. I suspect some of the fresh ones were from the yard. Good "southern" day here with Cloudless sulphur, Brazilian, ocola, fiery, and LT sk. Brazilian was freshly eclosed from my Canna plants. LT's continue to be daily here. I am shamelessly in love with tawny-edged sk's.
