Sandra Keller

Big Timber Cove - Gloucester
Gloucester County, NJ

This may be a first for me - a Cloudless in May. Nice looks at the bigger greenish tinged butterfly as it up the cove river area. Mostly sunny, 82 degrees, 3 to 8 mph south winds.

[Congrats, Sandra, on the good find of our FOY cloudless for 2020. The Lep Log (south of us) has been reporting good numbers of the species, so it might be a good year for them. We have few May reports over the years – in only four of our thirteen years logging. Oddly, in three of those four – 2012, 2019, and 2020 – the first report came on May 26. Our earliest ever report came on May 13, 2014. jc]

A quick walk around the new property at the end of the day to see how the Meadows are responding to the work that I have been doing. They are going to need a lot more work. The property is at the end of Franklin Avenue. Beware of the biting insects if you check it out.Today was the first bad day of the year for Strawberry flies. I chased the Checkered Skipper around with my phone for a few minutes trying for a picture with no luck.

[Congrats on our FOY checkered skipper for 2020, Brian. Good find! jc]
