March 2021 Sightings

An approx. 10 minute tour of garden observed 11:20am from sunporch.

none of these butterflies stoped to be photographed- mourning cloak went about 40ft up in a tree :(

Photographed 20-25" high in Staghorn Sumac tree.

Near the end of the dirt road.

Cabbage White came off the dunes and through the yard about 2PM. It's 8 days later than last year.

Very clean looking after over-wintering.

Tis the season.

Cabbage White flew across front yard, 2:15, sunny and 57 degrees. Wind E 7mph

Incidental sightings while in the park today.

seen twice or maybe it was 2 -not sure but great to be seeing them again. Out working in the yard on getting chick weed out.

My FOY butterflies! Just a fleeting glimpse of the anglewings, but the Am. Snout perched for me. I have seen snouts in this location in previous mild years in the late winter and early spring.

Both fly-bys at approx 1530.

Eastern Comma, repeatedly returned to pose on sun-bleached log. Nothing in bloom.

[Check out these good photos of two sides of same puzzling individual! The topside/dorsal fits EACO, but the "comma" on ventral is broken, so a quick look only at that side could lead you to call it a QUMA. Fred K was not fooled, however! jc]

There’s nothing at all for this cabbage white to eat as far as I can see! No blossoming trees or bulb flowers . Idk how it will survive

Cabbage White flew across front yard around 12:30. Sunny and 55 degrees.

I only saw one bfly while walking a couple of hours in Belleplain and MacNamara.

FOY butterfly in my yard, finally!

Seen flying over the parking lot around 11:15am, just before the wind really picked up.

Both came through this afternoon. I have now put some gooey fruit out, hoping a butterfly will stop to nectar.

Mourning Cloak flew high above yard around 12:30. Sunny, 75 degrees. SW wind 21mph

Actually in the front yard poking around the daffodils until a gust of wind took it away.
