Power line cut at the end of Scott’s Ave, Woodbine.

The relatively slow flying male falcate gave me a good view through the binoculars as it fluttered across the path and slipped away into the woods. Unfortunately I lost it before I was able to get a photo.

Belleplain State Forest (Upper Champion Road)
Cape May County, NJ

We walked a good section of Narrows Road and saw ZERO elfins … maybe those few days of very cold weather did early elfins in and others haven't emerged yet? Walked Upper Champion Road area for 40+ minutes inspecting various mustards when we finally saw a male Falcate Orangetip (just emerged?). Juvenal's Duskywing perched on a branch above us and showed off its unequivocal field mark (the 2 pale subapical spots on underside of hindwing). Teresa spotted a stunning member of the grasshopper-katydid family.

Our relatively short visit (birding) yielded a surprise: An American lady that I chased for a while that did not want to land. The photo is not good but it was the only chance I had from a distance to document it.

[Good job, JB! Our log's FOY Am lady for 2021. jc]

72 degrees and sun. Powerline cut here looks like it will have potential. Azures quick flying, so no photo again. Sulphur photo is the sulphur sp. Had a definite Clouded Sulphur also.

One of the Cabbage Whites was flying a good way out on the Bay. Needless to say, I was looking for birds out there, not butterflies.
